Public access to South Park WHMA to close for road work

JACKSON – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department would like to notify the public of a temporary access closure at the turnoff to the South Park Wildlife Habitat Management Area (WHMA) off of Wyoming Highway 89, approximately five miles south of Jackson.

The closure will be in effect from Oct. 15 to Oct. 16 while paving operations are completed at the Game and Fish Jackson Housing Project. During this time, access will be closed at the highway turnoff to the South Park WHMA. This includes vehicle and walk-in access through the South Park Feedground Road.

During this closure, members of the public will still be able to access the South Park WHMA from the southern entrance at Von Gontard’s landing Public Access Area. Von Gontard’s PAA is located approximately 6 miles south of Jackson across Highway 89 from the confluence of Flat Creek and the Snake River.

The South Park Feedground Road is expected to reopen on Oct. 17. Due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather or other project delays, additional or extended closures to the South Park Feedground Road may be necessary beyond this date. Any additional road closures will be visibly marked and signed for the public.

For more information on these closures, please contact the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Jackson Regional Office (307-733-2321).
